Do you have a pile of precious baby clothes you don’t want to part with? Can I help by making a memory blanket from them? Has somebody you love recently passed away? Maybe I can offer some comfort by making a memory blanket or cushion from their jumpers?
Whilst showing my woolly creations at The Shipley Art Gallery, in Gateshead, two different ladies, coincidentally approached me to talk about their recent bereavements, and requesting if I could do anything with their loved ones’ jumpers.
One lady had lost her mother, and had a large amount of cashmere, some of it going back to the 1960s, and much of it bought in Harrods.
Trouble is, the moths had got in, and much of it, although the most beautifully soft, fine cashmere, was riddled with holes. She asked if I could do anything with it, as her mother hated throwing anything away. By cutting around the holes, I managed to salvage enough cashmere rectangles to make the quilt you see in this photo.
